As a movie fan, Super bowl is always exciting as it’s the last major place to advertise the summer’s big tentpole releases.
The spots might only be 30 seconds long but studios won’t miss up the opportunity to get the word out in front a huge audience and build buzz by directing fans to longer form versions online.
The super blow spot is especially important for summer movies because it’s only a few months before the official summer kick off – just two in fact seeing as Marvel & Universal have effectively declared April as the beginning of the summer season thanks to releases like Fast 5, Thor & this year’s Captain America 2.
And the reason why it’s especially important to summer movie are because they generally the most CG. These effects often can’t be previewed effectively earlier due to the production workflow. So the later the trailer, the better the quality of CG. Very important to affects heavy movies.
There was a lot of conjecture as to which titles would be revealed. We didn’t see ads for some notable movies including Robocop (releasing very soon), Guardians Of The Galaxy (Marvel Studio’s other big 2014 movie), X-Men: Days Of Future Past (supposedly Fox’s 2nd biggest film after Avatar) but we did see some good stuff.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER – FULL TRAILER
Wow this just looks incredible. I love how each Marvel Studios film has a different tone yet still are consistent thematically to lock together.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 – EXTENDED
A near 4 minute trailer that gives a lot away. There may be too many characters but this is looking good.
MUPPETS MOST WANTED
The marketing isn’t as clever as that of the previous film but still is till very fun. #internetsavvy
TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION – SUPERBOWL SPOT
Finally Dinobots! A friends asked me ” Why won’t this franchise just die already?!” My answer: it the last one made well over a billion dollars at the box office! Let’s hope Michael Bay is better at four-quels than TV pitches. http://youtu.be/R4rMy1iA268
NEED FOR SPEED – SUPERBOWL SPOT
The March release date tells us a lot and I’m not really convinced. Now that Fast 7 has been pushed back to 2015 there is opportunity for DreamWorks to grab all those car fans out there.

Sorry not convinced. Sony should have used this for Robocop
NOAH – SUPERBOWL SPOT
Not sure what to make of this. The supposed behind the scenes turmoil between Darren Aronofsky and Paramount is not a good sign.

An American Football movie with Kevin Costner – where better to sell it than Super Bowl?

And another Kevin Costner movie – this time a thriller. Maybe they got a 2-4-1 discount?
