LinkedIn has compiled a list of the most overused buzzwords on their member profiles over the past 12 months.
Here’s the top 10:
- Responsible (used more than twice as often as the number two buzzword)
The survey looked at English-language member profiles from 14 countries including United Kingdom, United States Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sweden and United Arab Emirates and ranked adjectives by word count and totalled up the top ten for each country, and the top ten combined worldwide.
The full results can be seen in the infographic below.
Is it a surprise that the majority of the countries all had the top 3 words in this order: responsible, strategic & creative? Have we all been conditioned to think the same way?
It’s a Catch-22. The reason a lot of these words make the list is because they are what people want to see when they are recruiting. But at the same time people also want to see originality and individuality!
It’s very interesting to see how words such as motivated and specialized have dropped out from last years list. Also how the words vary by region – apparently the Dutch are sustainable, the British, enthusiastic, the Australians passionate and the Americans patient!
We are increasingly using networks like LinkedIn to represent ourselves professionally and recruiters are increasingly looking at social profiles so take a look at the list and then decide if it’s worth investing time into sprucing up you profile.
So how many of these are on your profile?
