The Lego Movie – Trailer

The Biggest Movie Ever Assembled?

Is easy to be cynical about this being an opportunistic cash-grab (though lets face it that can describe any project) but this looks like it could be a lot of fun.

This movie actually has some quality pedigree – its written directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller the duo behind Sony’s sleeper hits Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street and has a pretty awesome cast which is heavy on TV sitcom greats and includes Chris Pratt (a nice primer before he leads the Guardians of the Galaxy), Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman and Will Arnett – finally GOB Bluth is playing Batman!

What is also interesting is the sheer number of IP that in the mix – TMNT, the DC heroes and even Shaq!

Lego have been carefully developing their own brand over the past years by launching their own franchises like Bionicle as well as releasing special editions based on hugely popular IP like Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc.

And just as smartly they’ve been busy adapting them with the help of developer Travellers Tales into very popular video games which also helps expands the audience.

The games have a sly sense of humour and I get a feeling the Lego Movie will also be much wittier than we might have originally thought.

The Lego Movie is released by Warner Bros and Village Roadshow in 2014.
