What is the most popular social network site? Priit Kallas‘ chart shows the growth and decline of 15 key social networking sites by market share of visits over the past 5 years from 2008 to 2013.

Some highlights:

  • Facebook, clearly the most popular, has had steady rate of growth from 2008 to 2010 but seems to have plateaued and now seeing a decline in market share. Maybe time to unveil the next big feature or revamp?
  • YouTube has been on an ascent since launch and is getting more popular with every year. With more mobile devises in play and high quality, more tailored and exclusive content YouTube will continue to grow.
  • MySpace, as we all know has had a massive drop since 2009. There has been a small spike in spring 2012 when the new version was announced but it still is a shadow of its former self.
  • Professional network, LinkedIn, like YouTube has enjoyed great year on year increases in visits. As the only truly popular professional social network, LinkedIn occupies a niche in which it dominates.
